FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about our in-shop bedliner application, vehicle drop-off, cure times, and warranty coverage.

1. Truck Bedliner Costs & Line-X Alternative Comparison

How much does a spray in bedliner cost?

A professional high-pressure spray in bedliner typically costs between $475 and $750, depending on bed length, surface condition, and topcoat options. At Blackhawk Protective Coatings in Royse City, TX, our transparent pricing tiers are:

  • Short Bed (5.5' – 5.8'): $475 – $525
  • Standard Bed (6.5'): $525 – $575
  • Long Bed (8.0'): $575 – $675
  • Over-the-Rail Add-on: +$75 – $100
  • Aliphatic UV Topcoat: +$100 – $150

Compared to franchise dealers like Line-X that charge $650 to $900+ for standard beds, our independent Royse City shop provides identical or superior military-grade polyurea and a 10-year warranty with zero franchise markup.

Why is Blackhawk the premier Line-X alternative in North Texas?

Blackhawk Protective Coatings gives truck owners the exact same industrial-grade plural-component high-pressure technology as the biggest national brand: heated Graco Reactor proportioners operating at 160°F+ under 2,500 PSI, delivering over 2,800 PSI tensile strength. As an independent, veteran-owned shop, we deliver superior attention to detail, precision wire-trim cutlines, zero razor blades on your paint, same-day turnaround, and our 10-year transferable warranty at substantially lower prices.

Spray in bedliner vs. drop-in plastic bedliner: Which is better?

A spray in bedliner is dramatically superior to a drop-in plastic liner. Drop-in liners trap water, dirt, and road salt beneath the plastic shell. As the vehicle drives, the plastic vibrates against the factory paint, grinding it down to bare steel and creating severe hidden bed rust. A high-pressure spray in bedliner forms a permanent 100% airtight molecular seal that prevents rust forever and provides a textured, non-skid surface so cargo doesn't slide.

What is the difference between a spray in bedliner and DIY roll-on coatings?

DIY roll-on liners are solvent-based single-component coatings that dry through evaporation, yielding a thin 15 to 20 mil layer that easily gouges, chalks, and peels under Texas heat. Our in-shop plural-component polyurea is applied hot under 2,500 PSI to build a seamless 100 to 125 mil armor that chemically cures in 5 seconds and withstands extreme commercial abuse.

2. Bedliner Repair, Trailer Liners & Fleet Vehicle Coatings

Do you offer bedliner repair for peeling or damaged spray-in bedliners?

Yes. If your truck has an old peeling dealer liner, gouged commercial coating, or failing DIY roll-on liner, we provide expert bedliner repair. We mechanically grind down failing sections to bare metal, feather-edge surrounding intact areas, apply specialized chemical bonding agents, and spray a fresh hot polyurea top layer for permanent watertight restoration.

Can you coat utility trailers, work trucks, and commercial fleet vehicles?

Yes! We regularly spray utility trailer liners, goosenecks, equipment haulers, work truck bedliners, contractor flatbeds, crane service bodies, and fleet vehicle coatings. Our plural-component hot polyurea withstands skid-steer tracks, gravel buckets, chemical spills, and heavy tool drop impacts.

What is rock chip guard protection for rocker panels and wheel wells?

Our rock chip guard is a heavy-duty textured polyurea barrier applied to lower cab corners, door rocker panels, and inner wheel tubs. It protects high-impact painted areas against highway gravel blasts, tire fling, and caliche dust, preventing stone chips, paint stripping, and panel rust.

Do you offer chassis undercoating and rust proofing?

Yes. Our undercoating / rust proofing service is conducted on our in-shop hydraulic lifts. We coat truck frame rails, chassis crossmembers, and underside seams with a self-healing elastomeric shield that stops corrosive salt, road brine, and moisture while significantly dampening highway road noise and cabin vibration.

3. In-Shop Drop-Off & Turnaround Times

How does vehicle drop-off work at your Royse City shop?

You schedule a date and drop off your truck at our facility (4853 TX-276 Unit # 24, Royse City, TX) between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM. We also have a secure 24/7 key drop box if you need to leave your vehicle before hours. In most cases, your vehicle is prepped, sprayed, inspected, and ready for pickup the same afternoon.

What are the cure times before I can use my truck bed?

Our high-pressure hot polyurea system chemically cross-links instantly. It is tack-free within 5 seconds! You can drive away immediately upon pickup. We recommend waiting 4 to 6 hours for light duty (groceries, soft cargo) and 24 hours before loading heavy, sharp items like gravel, stone, or steel toolboxes.

How long does the in-shop truck bedliner installation take?

A standard truck bedliner installation takes approximately 3 to 4 hours from start to finish. This includes deep chemical degreasing, mechanical diamond scuffing, static poly vehicle masking, high-temp plural spray, wire trim extraction, and final quality control.

Can I wait at your facility while my truck is sprayed?

Yes. We have a comfortable customer waiting area with Wi-Fi and refreshments. Many customers also choose to drop their truck off on their morning commute and pick it up at the end of their workday.

4. Surface Prep & Wire-Trim Precision

How do you prepare the truck bed for coating?

Surface prep is 90% of a permanent liner bond. We thoroughly clean and degrease the bed, then mechanically abrade the factory clear coat using coarse abrasive cup wheels to achieve a uniform 2 to 3 mil anchor profile. We blow out all dust with compressed dry air and execute a final solvent wipe.

Will your technicians cut into my factory paint with razor blades?

Never. We use patented carbon-filament Wire-Trim tape along all bed rails, tailgate edges, and contours. The filament cuts cleanly through the polyurea from beneath when pulled, leaving a razor-sharp factory edge without any steel blades touching your paint.

How do you prevent overspray on the rest of my truck?

Every vehicle inside our spray booth is completely encapsulated from bumper to bumper in electrostatically-charged poly sheeting. Only the exact bed substrate is exposed. Combined with our industrial downdraft exhaust, zero overspray reaches your paint, glass, or wheels.

Do I need the UV-protective topcoat option in Texas?

If your truck is parked outdoors in the North Texas sun without a bed cover, we strongly recommend our aliphatic UV topcoat. Standard aromatic polyurea naturally oxidizes into a matte gray over years of UV exposure. The UV topcoat preserves a deep, satin jet-black finish indefinitely.

5. 10-Year Warranty & Long-Term Care

What does your 10-Year Warranty cover?

Our 10-Year Transferable Warranty guarantees that your Blackhawk bedliner will not bubble, crack, peel, or delaminate from the truck bed substrate under normal automotive and commercial use. If an adhesion failure ever occurs, we repair it free of charge at our Royse City shop.

How do I clean and maintain my spray in bedliner?

Our polyurea coating is virtually maintenance-free. Simply wash it with a high-pressure garden hose or car wash pressure wand. For stubborn grease or mud, use standard automotive soap and a stiff nylon bristle brush. It never requires waxing or re-coating.
